  • The Petition of Right guaranteed that the king could not unfairly jail or raise taxes without the approval of Parliament.
  • I come to you because I want to raise taxes.
  • Cavaliers - Were supported by loyal nobles and were led by Charles I. They expected a quick victory.
  • Roundheads - Were led by Oliver Cromwell and he was proved to be a skillful general. Created a new model army and a disciplined fighting force.

  • Cromwell and the Roundheads went on to win this war and were able to win a number of decisive victories against the Cavaliers.

  • The execution of King Charles I sent shock waves throughout Europe 
  • In 1647, King Charles I was in the hands of Parliamentary Forces. King was put on trail and sentenced to death. He was not king anymore as his crown is falling off.
  • When the pair arrived in England, James II fled, without shedding a drop of blood. This became known as the Glorious Revolution.
  • Parliament feared that James II would try to restore Catholicism throughout Europe. So in response, they invited Jame's Protestant daughter and her Dutch Protestant husband William III of Orange to rule England
