  • Dad, I was asked in school to do research on Colombian independence.
  • ok
  • Son I can help you to investigate, I know a lot about the history of Colombia, what do you think if we take a walk and I'll tell you about it?
  • and what was independence?
  • Colombian independence was a process that took at least 13 years and it was not only a matter of Colombians against Spaniards, everyone believed that in 1810 all Colombians shouted no more of Spain and that in 1819 in the battle of Boyacá we finally achieved national victory, but that is false.
  • and why is fake?
  • Because the so-called cry for independence on July 20 left a document in which they continued to declare loyalty to the king, but now I'm going to tell you how it all really began;
  • Actually it all started on July 18, 1810 where Cartagena, Cali, Pamplona, Socorro and Mompox created their own independent governments, the first city to become fully independent was Cartagena.
  • Dad and how did independence really begin?
  • In 1815 Pablo Morillo, a Spanish military man, went with a whole army to recover what he thought was his and there were many wars and conflicts, 4 years later on August 7, 1819 a liberating campaign that started in the plains of Arauca and Casanare and ended in Boyacá would be victorious, this was the true independence but from the center of the country.
  • And now dad what's next
  • and the rest of the country what?
  • The other regions and important cities were still loyal to the king and were fighting for their independence, and finally they were liberated in due time in wars that lasted at least until 1823, so in this year we were already totally independent.
