"He looked very tired indeed. He was usually so chipper, I almost commented. But it was far too personal a subject to be introduced to Mr.Lewis, the grocer".
Miss Strangeworth and Mr.Lewis had gone to high school together; they used to be very good friends. The day Mr. Lewis went to work in the grocery store, the circumstances between them changed. In this dialogue, Mr. Lewis forgets to bring Miss Strangeworth her tea. She continues to criticize him for his appearance rather than wishing him well. She keeps judging how exhausted he appears. Which indicates how judgmental she is.
" It's Tuesday, Mr.Lewis you forgot to remind me to get my usual tea "
" Did I? my apologies Miss Strangeworth "
Miss Strangeworth often writes anonymous poison pen letters to her neighbors. Which are rarely based on fact, and more on what gossip she has heard during her walks down the streets. And how she judged the people around her. The letters are always cruel and horrific. But she enjoys writing them and thinks, it gets rid of the evil in town. Although she is a hell-raiser.
"I'm thinking for a minute, although I had been phrasing the letter inthe back of my mind all the way home"
Miss Strangeworth meets Mrs.Haper while getting groceries, they both welcome each other. Miss Strangeoworth realizes that her hand shook slightly. Then starts judging her for not looking well and being hesitant, and even comments on it. In addition, this proves that it isn't negotiable; that Miss Strangeworth is judgy and nosey. She's like the aunts who interfere in other's lives too much.
" Martha you don't seem to be doing good is everything okay? "
I wonder if she had been caring for herself well. She looks absolutely dreadful.
