- He became a Page in 1506 serving a powerful relative. He loved Mary and God but not for the glory of God, for the glory of being famous and rich. He developed a connection to the wealthy and the ladies and had a gambling addiction. Sometimes he even got involved in sword fights. He was an alcoholic who dreamed of being a world-famous knight, with nothing to do with serving God. He wanted his name to be heard around the world about being a famous, brave knight.
- While Saint Ignatius (Inigo) was bravely leading the Spanish military a cannonball was shot out from the French and flew past his leg. It smashed into a brick wall and shards of rock and wood shattered his leg. The French carried him to the hospital. That night he was expected to die, but he didn't. There was bad technology so he read the life of Christ and a book about the saints. When he thought about serving God that was what made him happy. Instead of wanting to be a Knight, he wanted to serve God.
