Storyboard Text

  • In 1848, gold was found at a sawmill in California owned by Johann A. Stutter. Like a moth to a flame, people came from all over the world for a chance to win it big time: getting some gold. Californias population skyrocketed as people, especially males who outnumbered females 3 to 1, moved to California. This period of time was called the Gold Rush.
  • I can't wait for a chance to find some gold!
  • I Johann, found some gold teeheehee
  • However, the Gold was not endless, and it eventually ran out.
  • It appears you are right bro, its been days without seeing any gold. There must be another place we can find some,
  • Brother, it seems that all the gold has been found, there is none left
  • Many Native American tribes were overrun by miners sick with gold fever. Native American people were killed or sold into slavery as their tribes were pillaged. State officials even paid people to kill Native Americans. Before the gold rush, Californias Native American population was around 150,000. Yet, by 1860, that number was reduced to 30,000
