- Fredrick's Fight A True Slave's Story
- Frederick Douglass was a slave and his owner is Master Thomas. He was rented to a slave breaker named Covey on January 1, 1833.
- In the first six months, not a week passed without Covey whipping Fredrick to the moon and back. This made Fredrick mad.
- Sometimes Covey would sneak around like a slippery sneaky snake and catch slaves not working. He would then beat and whip them. Covey was a snake to all the slaves.
- "I am too tired friend, please let me sleep for one or two minutes," said the slave to Fredrick. Fredrick said: "Don't or the snake will bite you and once your bit, he will keep biting ." After that, Fredrick felt sick and needed to rest, but Covey thought he was only slacking off.
- One day Douglass ran to the forest to get some rest then he found a person who looked like a slave, but Fredrick wasn't sure. The person gave Fredrick a magical root that gave him the confidence boost he needed to go back to Covey. It's as if the root spoke to him words of confidence.
