- Grandpa, good morning! hmmm... I have a question I would like to ask you.
- Good morning, too, my grandson, and yes, I'm open for any questions you might have hehe.
- Why are the Philippines one of the few Asian nations where Christianity is the predominant religion? because most of our neighbouring country, which is situated in the Asian region, do not practice Christianity.
- Yes, the Philippines is one of the few countries in Asia that practices Christianity. This is due to the fact that Spain which is a Christian dominated country, has colonized us for more than 300 years and that they are actively trying to convert the Filipino people to Christianity. However, in order to do this, they have forced us to learn their language so that we can communicate with one another.
- Ahh... This explains why most Filipinos are Christians since they colonized us for more than 300 years. We also absorbed some of their traditions and culture because of their colonization.
- Grandpa, thank you for our wonderful conversation. Now, I understand it very clearly.
- Yes, except for religion, we also inherited their customs of having their last names because before their colonization of our country, our ancestors only had one name and no surnames; as a result of them, we now have surnames.
