Cory gets home from school upset because his dad had gone and told the school not to let him play. Cory not knowing why and saying this was the only chance he had.

That boy lied to me, if he wanna play football he's got to keep up his chores and hold a job
I can't work after school during football season, pop! He's holding my job for me.
Nothing wrong with Cory playing football, Troy.
Troy explains it's because Cory had lied and didn't hold up his part, being he needs to keep and job and stay up with his chores. Although in order to play Cory can't have a job because it'd interfere with practice.

You just scared i'm gonna be better than you, that's all.
Troy says that Cory did it to himself and that it's his own fault. This having Cory snap and says that he's doing this to him because he's scared he'll be better than him. This making Troy upset, because he knows deep down it's true.
