- America1820In the White house the Missouri compromise of 1820 was signed to balance the number of free states and slave states in the Union. It said the the new state of Missouri would be open to slavery, while the newly appointed Louisiana territory would remain free soil

- This is the Missouri Compromise to balance the Union
- America 1850sA democratic senator; Stepen A. Douglas, decided to build a railroad track through Louisiana where he happened to own real estates. So he made a Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854. It would divide the big chunk of land into two territories each of which would be open to slavery if the population decided it. The north were horrified even though it was stated to protect the political rights of the citizens.

- The south supported the senator but the northers were horrified that this; act is violation of the Missouri compromise 1820. Congress was able to pass the Kansas-Nebraska act but not without the cost of bitterly deviding the nation. Politician brandished weapons and shouted insults at each other, but nevertheless the protests President Pierce signed the act.
- In that time in America there were two political parties: Democrats and Wiggs. When the nation split, The political party wiggs ceased to exsist and that year a new party was founded - Democrats that contained former members of the northern wiggs and democrats. Abraham Lincoln, a former northern wigg, supported the republicans from an early stage.

- Meanwhile, The consequences of the Kansas-Nebraska act didn't have the politicians waiting for long. Popular Sovereignty wasn't as good as the south imagined. The north put up advertisements for the northern people to immigrate to Kansas to promote anti-slavery, while South told it's people to also migrate to Kansas to vote for slavery and raid anti-slavery settlements. This cause hundreds of northern deaths which didn't help in an already rotting relationship between the rival sides
- Meanwhile,#160; The Nominally still national party, Douglas's democrats were even more divided between south and north. Furthermore, many northern democrats left and joined the newly formed republicans. Abraham Lincoln took the leading banner of the democrats in 1856.#160; Later in 4 years, Abraham Lincoln was elected as the president of the United states in 1860.
