Where and When
John Brown was a white abolitionist, who strongly believed against slavery. He decided that one of the best ways to go against slavery was violence. In Bleeding Kansas, John Brown and his 3 sons, killed 5 pro slavery people by the river.
So What?
John Brown lead a Raid that consisted of rebelling against slavery on a ferry. This was his way of showing resistance of slavery, and in his hopes that it would slow down slavery and or speed up the ending of slavery. During this raid, he frees all the slaves and captures all the slave owners. This was his radical way to show force against slavery.
The raid started on October 16, 1859 and lasted till the early morning of October 18, 1859. John Brown's group of men advanced to Harper's Ferry and had been renting the Kennedy Farm that is on the Maryland side of the Potomac River.
The aftermath of JOhn Brown''s raid created an outrage in fellow abolishonists and slaves who supported Brown and his efforts. Despite him being a white man who would benefit from slavery he still fought to get it abolished and grew a huge support from slaves. That made the Civil War inevitbale and tensions between the North and South at an all time high.
