- This is not so bad
- Douglass has just arrived at covey's farm and immediately gets to work while feeling like this is a new chance at life and maybe a chance to escape once and for all
- Covey v.s Douglass
- It has been 5 1/2 months since Douglass came here. He is losing his will to live.
- Six months after coming to covey's
- I wish I could escape, life here is horrible!
- One day Douglass fell down on his knees and couldn't get up, Douglass was kicked several times and whipped until covey didn't care anymore
- GET UP OR I WILL WHIP YOU!
- I cannot get up can he not see that?!
- Douglass ran off into the woods after almost getting whipped to death and found another slave called Sandy Jenkins that gave him some advice and a special root.
- Will that really work?
- Here,this will stop you from being whipped
- After getting the ROOT Douglass came back to the farm and surprisingly did not get whipped. The next morning, he was told to care for the cows and while he did this covey snuck up behind him and tried to hold him. Douglass fought back and hit covey hard. Covey ran inside his house.
- I'm not letting you hurt me anymore!
- You have no choice!
- I will not be a slave anymore! I will find a way to escape and leave this place!
- Douglass felt what it was like to feel freedom and he longed for that feeling once more, his spirit came back in full force and his determination was stronger than ever.
