- Macbeth and Banquo hear a prophecy from three witches. For Macbeth: he will be the thane of Cawdor and King thereafter! Banquo doesn't believe the witches and makes fun of them. But they inform Banquo that he will not be king, but his sons will be! Macbeth is very interested in the prophecy...

- Lady Macbeth receives Macbeth's letter informing her of the witches' prophecy. Lady Macbeth comes up with a sinister plot to kill King Duncan so Macbeth can become King and herself Queen!
- What good is that I am King if Banquo's sons will be King after me? Those witches' prophecies will not come true for Banquo! I will kill him and his son, Fleance! No one shall take my power away from me, not even my best friend and his son!
- Macbeth sees a floating dagger going towards King Duncan's room! Macbeth has carried out Lady Macbeth's plans! Lady Macbeth got the guards drunk, Macbeth took their daggers, murdered King Duncan in his sleep, and then killed the guards!
- Farewell, Duncan!
- Macbeth freaks out at the dinner party and sees Banquo's ghost! This reveals how paranoid and insane Macbeth has become since becoming king, but also, represents his guilt for murdering his best friend. All this is the price he is paying for his unquenching thirst for power and his desire to become king!
