- Man vs. Nature
- "Just back up slow and quiet to the ladder and climb up to loft" (pg. 1).
- Man vs. Man
- "So! You've decided to honor us with a visit!" The mistress's face was red with heat or rage. Behind her, Triphena grimaced an apology..."Yours dismissed!" (pg. 44)
- Man vs. Society
- "Its a lot of money" he said gently. "'I'd be tempted myself if I were you." (pg. 42)
- This would be person vs. Nature because Lyddie and her family are having to hide and get to safety from the bear who has entered their home. Nature is the bear and the man is Lyddie and her family.
- This would be Man vs. Man because Lyddie faces the mistress and she is mad at Lyddie for leaving without permission. This ends with the mistress firing Lyddie.
- This would be Man vs. Society because Lyddie must decide if she wants to turn Ezekial in and get money, or keep him and not turn him in. The society didn't like black people and used them as slaves and would sell them. Lyddie is going against what the Society thinks about black people.
