Storyboard Text

  •
  • That was a great nap.
  • Wait…why are they wearing those unusual clothes? Everyone’s different, what’s happening?
  • Ouuchh!
  • What is this, a rubber ball?
  • No worries, but can you accompany me as I wander around because I honestly don’t know where I am.
  • But, how do you make those?
  • What I am now in Aztec Civilization?! This is fantastic. I can see how the chinampas helped to the health of the environment while also providing habitat for fish and birds, as well as extra food sources. Can you show me around?
  • Hello! What do you call that floating thing?
  • Oh Chinampas or Floating garden! We Aztec created this new land to grow crops and to live on.
  • Come! Let’s go first to the market.
  • Oh, sorry we are just playing pitz using this rubber ball here in the court. I don’t intend to throw the ball towards you.
  • Sure, since we’re actually done playing. You may see us as mysterious people, you are in the 1200 BCE, here in Southern Mexico. We are the Olmec people and our country is inhabited by rubbers. And, to prove that, you see the rubber ball earlier? Not to brag but we are the first to play that ball game.
  • We are using the latex from the trees. Easy!
  • Wow, I didn’t know you have thought of that advancement to make rubbers. Soo, I am in the Olmec Civilization. This is getting more interesting. Can you tell me more? I can see you have a lot of massive stone sculptures of faces. They are so, so biigg!
  • Wow! You guys are indeed gifted when it comes to sculptures. Thank you because I actually dreamed about being a sculptor and all of these are giving me ideas for my next project in school.
  • We are gifted artists and sculptors. What you are now seeing are the Olmec colossal heads; those are representations of human heads sculpted from large basalt boulders. They range in height from 1.17 to 3.4 meters (3.8 to 11.2 ft). We regularly moved the heads around for different ritual purposes. Also, those are used as powerful markers of rulership and distributed to declare political dominance in many territories.
  • Come with me, hurry!.
  • Oh, sure. Let me just get you a drink.*gets the chocolate drink*
  • Of course, that’s delicious because that is my favorite drink. We used kakawa (cacao) to make that drink. Actually, my mayan friends are using tall cylinder beakers for drinking chocolate, and these often had text on the rim indicating their intended use. Anyways, let’s go, I have a lot more to share.
  • How nice of you, thank you! Wow, you have a chocolate drink already? *drinks the chocolate* mmmm this is sooo good!
  • Woow a cavee! But wait, can we rest first? I am so thirsty. I’m tired.
  • I’m taking too much time, I wanted to go home, it’s our prayer time, my mom would get mad at me.
  • Oohh I see.
  • Did you know that we also believe in Gods? We believe in eight gods—or at least supernatural beings. They are the Olmec Dragon, Bird Monster, Fish Monster, Banded-eye God, Water God, Maize God, Were-jaguar, Feathered Serpent.
  • No worries, Thank you for helping me! Ohh shoot, I forgot to ask his name. Anyways, I know I’m dreaming. Maybe if I go back to sleep, everything will be back to normal.
  • Oh, I’m sorry but I really have to go, I forgot, my mother asked me to bring her some chocolate drinks as well. It’s nice meeting you!
