  • Mr Pirzada was a man from Dhaka, bangladesh capital, who was visiting the United States to write a manuscript. He didn't have a tv or a proper stove to cook food. So almost every night he came over to Lilia's house to watch the news and eat dinner with her family. He was a welcome Muslim in the Hindu family, despite the division by war.

  • This isn't good.. I hope my family is okay...
  • Mr. Pirzada wanted to watch the news because in his homeland a war was being fought. Pakistan was fighting s civil war. Back home he had 7 daughters, all their names started with A, and a wife. He wondered every night if they were okay. 
  • Falling Action
  • Thank you for everything..
  • Lilia started wondering more about her heritage and questioning all the things about the war and politics. One day she was in her school library, looking for 3 books her teacher, Kenyon, left them as homework, but she could't focus on it.Then, she found a book about India. She wanted to read it but her teacher came up to Lilia, asking her if that book had anything to do with her book report. When Lilia answered no, Ms Kenyon said there was no reason for Lilia to be reading the book then.
  • Resolution
  • I am so happy he found his family!!
  • On Halloween night, Lilia called her mother to let her know she arrived at her friends house. To Lilia's surprise, her mother sounded upset. When Lilia got home everyone was in a gloom mood. The news was bad. India and Pakistan were getting closer to the war and troops from both sides were lining the border. Mr. Pirzada was very worried about his family. 
  • Mr. Pirzada stayed at Lilia's house to finishing his manuscript, worried about all the situation. The war was over in September 23, 1965 and Dhaka was slowly rebuilding itself. 
  • Lilia's family got a letter from Mr. Pirzada after months of him being back home. He found his 7 daughters and wife. Lilia truly missed him that night and decided to he threw the halloween candies in the trash because she no longer needed them, there was no longer any reason to feel sad for Mr. Pirzada .
