- Please Odysseus, let us stop at this island.
- Okay. We can stop but you must not touch or eat the cattle or you will all die.
- we have ran out of food. Let's kill Helios' cows. We will die but it is better than starving to death.
- Zeus has punished my men for eating Helios' cattle.
- After the shock of Scylla, Odysseus' men beg him to stop at Helios' island. Odysseus agrees and warns them not to touch Helios' precious cattle or else they will die. They stop at the island intending to stay for a short while, but Zeus makes a storm so they can't leave.
- We have faced danger before. Zeus will help us now row or die trying!!!
- Zeus continued to create storms; trapping Odysseus and his men on Helios' island. Food was running short so Odysseus went to pray to the gods but they put him into a deep sleep. While Odysseus was sleeping, his men got so hungry that they decided to kill and eat Helios' cattle even though they would die.
- To punish Odysseus' men for eating Helios' cattle, Zeus struck their ship with a lighting bolt. He made the skies clear, allowing the men to set sail again. Once they were away from the island, Zeus sent another storm and struck them with a lightning bolt, killing everyone except Odysseus.
- Once Odysseus and his men passed the sirens, Odysseus informs his men that they will have to now pass the gigantic whirlpool Charybdis. If they get too close, Charybdis will swallow and kill them; destroying their ship too.
- Odysseus knew that once they passed Charybdis, they would have to sail past the monster Scylla too. He knew that six of his men would die, so he didn't say anything to them, knowing that they would be scared. When they were close enough, Scylla jumped out of her cave, snatching six men and eating them.
