- In the early days of Deng's political career he quickly arose in the ranks of the Chinese Communist Party. Deng and the then President Mao Zedong had many conflicts relating to their ideologies and how China was to be led. Due to this Deng was dubbed "Not Communist"enough and was forced out of the Chinese Communist Party not once but twice. Each time he came back ready to reclaim his political position and he eventually became President.

- The One-Child Policy was a policy that was the idea of Deng Xiaoping. It limited the number of children a family could have to one. It was extremely controversial. It did work though, it curved the population growth rate and decreased the fertility rate in China as well. The policy lasted from 1980 until 2015
- If a family violated this policy, The parents would be penalized. The penalty could be a fine, job loss, forced abortion, etc.

- THE ONE CHILD POLICY IS ENACTED

- The 1989 protests of Tienanmen Square (located in Beijing) for democracy and freedom in China. The protests largely consisted of College students. On June 4th 1989, Deng showed his loyalty to the Communists by mobilizing the military with tanks and troops to the Tienanmen protests. As they advanced many people tried to get in the way and stop the advancement of the military, but they were shot and killed. The peaceful protests of Tienanmen Square turned into a bloody massacre that resulted in the loss of many lives.
