  • What is the Colombian exchange?
  • Before the Columbian Exchange the American Continents were not known, during this time Christopher Columbus decided to take a voyage to Asia so that there was a faster route to go to Asia. He later instead found the american continents and there he thought they were Indians.
  • It widespread trading with plants, culture, animals, and many ideas
  • Cool!
  • After this became the Columbian exchange during this time period many materials like gold silver were often traded with the Europeans. Disease was spread rapidly killing millions of Native Americans since they were not immune to the diseases.
  • This caused the beginning of the new era called the Atlantic Slave Trade during the exchange which were African slaves borught from Africa and taken to the Americas which immune to diseases like measles and smallpox. There many things introduced like new fruits such as mangoes, bananas, and many more.
  • WOW! I never knew that. Thanks for telling me about this
  • There were new plants like cotton, barley, wheat, etc… In Britannica of the Colombian Exchange it tells us“Until the mid-19th century, “drug crops” such as sugar and coffee proved the most important plant introductions to the Americas. Together with tobacco and cotton, they formed the heart of a plantation complex that stretched from the Chesapeake to Brazil and accounted for the vast majority of the Atlantic slave trade.”
  • If it was not for Columbus to discover the Americas. Florida would not have mangoes. There would be no coffee and sugar in Southern American Continent.
