The soldiers of the Gorkha regiment on till only Major Thapa and 2 others remained. Outnumbered and outpowered, they were captured and taken away as prisoners of war.
Despite all attempts by the Chinese, however, Thapa refused to pass on any information that would help the Chinese in anyway. Meanwhile, everyone in India thought that he was dead and was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously. When the Indian government got news that Thapa was alive, they secured his release. He came home to a hero's welcome. Thapa continue to serve and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian army. We salute major Thapa and his team of soldiers for their courage and bravery, and their dedication towards the nation
