Get out of here!
After Queen Elizabeth dies, due to no heirs, James I, her cousin starts to rule. He believes in Divine Rights of Kings and the Parliament does not like this. After James I dies, his son, Charles I starts to rule. He also believes in Divine Rights of Kings. Later, Charles I signs a petition to limit his power but ignores it. I will be King now.
Cavaliers, who supported King Charles, and Round-heads, who support Parliament go to war. The round-heads that are led under Oliver Cromwell win the war and be-head Charles I in public.
Oh no! To France I go!
The Round-heads purge Parliament of supporters of Charles I. They also abolished monarchy and set up Commonwealth (something like a republic). Oliver Cromwell rules until he dies in 1658. After he is gone, the army restores England's monarchy.
Bill of Rights
After Cromwell dies, Charles II rules in his place. Luckily, he does not believe in Divine Rights of Kings and does not challenge the Parliament's authority. After Charles II dies, James II, his son, begins to rule. However, he is openly catholic and this does worry the Parliament.
A group of English nobles travels to the Netherlands to ask William of Orange to invade England and take over as King. He is the son in law of James II. After William of Orange invades, James II flees seeing that little of England will actually support him. This fight is won with little to no bloodshed.
In 1689, William and Mary accept the throne and abolish the theory of Divine Rights of Kings. They created the Bill of Rights which lays the foundation for a constitutional monarchy. That way almost every big decision would go through the Parliament.
