  • Ebola is caused by a virus called the Ebola virus. It's believed that the virus is initially transmitted to humans from wild animals, like fruit bats or monkeys. Once a person is infected, the virus is communicable and can then be spread from person to person like animal to person, through direct contact with the blood or other bodily fluids of an infected individual.
