  • The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Theme: Mankind is it's own worst enemy.
  • In The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street By Rod Serling, one of the main themes is Mankind is it's own worst enemy. One piece of evidence is that they killed a fellow neighbor. In act two Woman one said You killed him, Charlie you shot him dead. Pg:83 . This reveals that they are so driven to madness that they shot a neighbor without knowing who it was. Equally this is made known through the fact that they blame Tommy a little kid. Charlie: It's ... It's the kid It's Tommy. Pg: 84 . This shows that they are so eager to stay out of suspicion that they blame a kid. Lastly, In the experiment by the extraterrestrial which they did it all over that world and just because they turned off a few devices they all went crazy (Every single city). This seen when figure one says With few variations. They pick the most dangerous enemy they can find and it's themselves. This shows that in the story people all over the world blame each other to not get blamed themself. This is why the theme is Mankind is it's own worst enemy
