- The country has been stricken by a horrific pestilence known as the Red Death. It's extremely lethal and horrifyingly gruesome. The country's prince, Prince Prospero, locks himself and his friends in his castle to escape the red death, leaving his country to die.
- Climax
- Prospero invites all the wealthy, unaffected people in his kingdom to his castle for a luxurious masquerade ball.
- Falling Action
- The enormous rooms that Prospero has designed mystify and amuse guests. Starting from the east, each room is marked by a distinct hue. No one dares to visit the final room, which is dark with scarlet windows, because it's very frightening. Every hour, a mysterious ebony clock in this room chimes, bringing the party to a halt.
- Resolution
- When the clock is about to reach midnight, a mysterious guest dressed as a corpse in a cloak appears, scaring and confusing the revelers.
- Prospero orders the revelers to seize the uninvited guest, but they are terrified to approach him. When Prospero saw this he drew a dagger and tried to approach the cloaked figure himself, but the figure killed him. He fell to his death in the seventh room.
- “Seize him and unmask him — that we may know whom we have to hang at sunrise, from the battlements!”
- As the other guests try to capture the invader, they discover that no one is concealed inside the cloak, and they all die as well. In the end, Prince Prospero couldn't escape death, and death had the ultimate dominion over all.
