- Though, after a few weeks into the school year, I started noticing Charlie would sometimes get a bit... mean? He would make passive aggressive comments, tease me, and say generally rude things entirely unprovoked. Our other friends, Layne and Ari, didn't seem to pick up on this.
- Oh... okay?
- By the way, I don't know if I already told you, but that outfit you wore on the first day of school? I thought it was kind of ugly.
- It didn't help me feel validated to see that not only did my friends have no problem with Charlie, but that Ari had even agreed to start going out with him. It couldn't just be me, right? Something was definitely off.
- After a while, I decided to finally confide in Layne about my concerns. To which, surprisingly, he had begun to notice something was up with Charlie. His weird behavior was usually targeted at me. But he would occasionally act in ways that were inappropriate for various situations.
- Hey, so... have you noticed Charlie's attitude lately? I feel sort of like he hates me, but I don't know why.
- Actually? I think I have picked up on a weird vibe from him. I'm not sure. I don't think he hates you, especially since you haven't really given him any reason to. I'm not sure.
- Yeah, like the other day when you were absent he started arguing with the teacher in front of the whole class. It was kind of awkward.
- What, really? That is weird. I don't know, maybe I can try talking to him to ask him if something's wrong?
