  • In this scene, the witches meet while thunder and lightning crashes around them. The three witches chant together as they discuss plans to confront Macbeth after the battle. After they finalize their plans they disappear.

  • In this scene, King Duncan, his sons Malcolm and Donalbain, and the Thane of Lennox wait to discuss the news of the battle. Once the Captain comes in they talk about the details of the battle. King Duncan highlights Macbeth's bravery for defeating Macdonwald.
  • This quote by King Duncan foreshadows the prophecy in scene 3, in which the witches tell Macbeth he will be the Thane of Cawdor.

  • In this scene, Macbeth and Banquo meet the three wishes. Immediately, the witches hail Macbeth as Thane of Glamis and Cawdor and tell him he will soon become King. Macbeth and Banquo are both skeptical of the Witches' prophecies due to their appearance and their way of speaking.
  • This quote depicts Macbeth's internal conflict with the Witches' prophecies through his thoughtful, serious tone. Although part of the witches' claims seems to go against what Macbeth knows as truth, he takes their predictions seriously.
