  • Look up. Way up. The clouds you see in the sky, the wind that is moving the trees or the flag in your school yard, even the sunshine you feel on your face—these are all a result of Earth’s atmosphere.
  • Hi guys! I'm Mr. Sun, and today we're going to be learning about our atmosphere. I'm a pretty feisty guy, so it's important to learn how to stay safe from me!
  • The atmosphere protects life on earth by shielding it from incoming ultraviolet (UV) radiation, keeping the planet warm through insulation, and preventing extremes between day and night temperatures.
  • However, unfortunately this layer is getting thinner and thinner. It's not healthy for people and that's why we need to preserve plus protect it.
  • As the sun, the earth is protected from my ultraviolet (UV) rays by a shield in its atmosphere called the ozone layer.
  • Meet Mr. Sun as we go on a journey to explore the ATMOSPHERE!!!
  • In addition to being important for life, the atmosphere also allows the harvesting of a number of primary energy sources. The atmosphere also serves as a heat sink for certain types of heat engines. More obviously, the wind is the atmosphere moving, so atmosphere is needed for wind power.
  • The atmosphere protects the surface of the Earth from harmful cosmic rays and holds the oxygen and carbon dioxide needed to support life. The chemistry of the Earth's atmosphere is governed by chemical reactions, many of which come from life. Life is notably responsible for the atmospheric oxygen; without photosynthesis, the molecular oxygen in the atmosphere would chemically vanish.
  • Obviously Yes!!! The atmosphere contains the air that we breathe; protects us from the harmful radiation of the Sun; helps to keep the planet's heat on the surface, and plays a very important role in the water cycle.
  • You might ask, is atmosphere really essential in our life?

  • The level of UV radiation that reaches the earth can depend on multiple factors such as the time of day/year, latitude, altitude, and the weather conditions.
  • Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Cut down on what you throw away. Follow the three "R's" to conserve natural resources and landfill space.Volunteer. Volunteer for cleanups in your community. You can get involved in protecting your watershed, too.Plant a tree. Trees provide food and oxygen.
  • How can we protect the atmosphere
  • The atmosphere is important because of the following reasons: It contains oxygen, which is vital for living organisms. Ozone found in the atmosphere (which is made up of three oxygen atoms) protects living organisms from harmful UV radiation.
  • The atmosphere is divided into layers. They are Troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, and Exosphere.
  • Educate. When you further your own education, you can help others understand the importance and value of our natural resources.
