  • Georgia adopted her cat, Ginger, about 5 years ago when she was 1 1/2 years old

  • Teddy has always been a very energic cat who loves attention from Georgia, until one day something changed...

  • Teddy was acting much more tired than usual and urinating more frequently than normal
  • ZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • He was also drinking lots water and eating much more, Georgia was re-filling his bowls almost 5 times a day!
  • Why am I so thirsty?

  • You can bring Teddy in tomorrow
  • That evening, Georgia decided to call the her veterinary hospital to make an appointment for the following day

  • In the exam room the next morning, Georgia meets with the veterinarian who performs a physical exam on Teddy and asks Georgia some questions
  • He has been drinking and eating a lot more then normal, he also isn't as active as before. My family has also noticed he's gained weight, but I don't think so!

  • The veterinarian takes Teddys diet history, eating habits, and lifestyle habits from Georgia, and notices he is overweight despite him eating more... she suspects diabetes mellitus
  • I suspect Teddy has type-2 diabetes, we will need to run some blood and urine tests to confirm
  • Okay, whatever needs to be done!

  • That evening, Georgia started introducing Teddy to his new food, she decided to go with the Purina Pro DM wet food diet as reccomended by the vet
  • This tastes different...

  • Over the next few months, Georgia worked hard to successfully introduce the new diet to Teddy and increase his physical exercise to promote weight and healing

  • With Teddy's health and weight improving, Georgia decided to call the veterinarian to set up an appointment for the following week to check his progress and ensuring everything is going smoothly

  • Great work Georgia, Teddy has lost weight and his diet has definitely helped manage his diabetes!
  • That's great to hear! How long do I need to keep up these changes? Will his diabetes ever go away?
  • This is a lifelong battle, so keep doing what your doing and Teddy should live a long, happy life with you! Hopefully he will go into remission, meaning his blood sugar levels remain stable for a period of time.
