- 1743 Toussaint was born a slave but was fourtunate enough to have a liberal master who alllowed him to learn
- Toussaint took full advantage of being able to read and write. Headmired the way the french enlightenment was written.
- The French revoluation broke out and took a tole on france. In the end they agreed on "rightd of man"
- soon word spread that "rightds of men" ment to all including free blacks and muattoes (those of mix race)
- colonies were furious and did not agree with the france, They didnt want to let their slaves go. So in 1791 they retracted the measure
- The people were outraged, they couldn't believe that they really were trying to take their right away again.
- Toussaint became the leader of slave rebellioln and they decied to fight the french. They also invaided spanish and british
- Toussaint successfully beat the french and went on to invaid Spainsh and Brithish
- 1793 the revolution if france was in the hands of jacobins
- turned the colony into a country governed by former black slaves as a nominal French protectorate and made himself ruler of the entire island of Hispaniola.
- Toussanint Louverture was trickd and captured by france and jailed until he later died in 1803
