In the text it states, "I met Buckey's gaze and he knew. he saw me standing there, saw that I wasn't coming to rescue,that he had been betrayed" (Magoon 67). he didn't use violence to save bucky this shows how he was the good old boy because he used fathers logic and held him self to do nothing but watch.
chapter 12 - eyes locked 
In the text it says,"I surrendered to the wave, to the fire. I picked up a brick from the side walk and flung it through the store window" (Magoon 97). this shows how Sam surrenders to the anger and it possess him to fling a brick through the window it possess him to choose a side father or stick he picked the side of anger, destruction, and violence.
chapter 12 - no longer 
Sam is confused and curious, and attends a meeting. In the text, it says “I felt so heavy, stuffed to bursting with all the things we weren’t saying. All the thoughts I couldn’t bring aloud, like how mixed up the world had become” (Magoon 121).
Sam after
In the text it says, "My eyes locked on the Panthers. I could've been down there with them" (Magoon 185). He does not know whether he wants to be with father or the panthers. This shows he is still in the middle and has not made a choice.
In the text it states, "I looked up at Stick, sill strugeling with the man, but i was no longer helpless. No longer did I have to stand by, watch, and wait."
