- Life of Pi by : Yann Martel This book was published on September 11, 2001.
- Pi, a God loving boy and the son of a zookeeper, has a love for stories and practices not only his native Hinduism, but also Christianity and Islam. When Pi is 16 his family and their zoo animals emigrate from India to North America aboard a Japanese cargo ship.
- While at sea the ship sinks in the middle of the Pacific Ocean leaving crew members, the family, and the animals to die. However...
- Pi finds himself in a life boat, with his only companions a Hyena, orangutan, a wounded zebra and a 450- pound Bengal Tiger. Soon, the tiger had dispatched all but Pi. They continue to journey until they find land.
- Pi and the Bengal tiger (Richard Parker) come across a blind castaway and take him aboard, as the blind man attempts to attack Pi Richard Parker kills him. Not long after, they come across and Island grown directly out of vegetation and leave shortly after arriving after making the assumption that the Island eats humans.
- Pi and Richard Parker head back out to sea and finally wash ashore on a Mexican Beach. Richard Parker runs off and Pi is taken to a hospital.
