One major theme of "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" by Rod SterlingFear and suspicion is destructive, In this story The monsters are due on maple street , "Man kind is its own enemy", This is what this story is trying to tell us basicially and its true. One of these scenes in this story showed us no matter how long you been friends or anything, they still turn there back on you and that's the part where they all started blaming les goodman and he just felt betrayed, angry and all those emotions. Also another scene is that people will always try and look for a scape goat, someone to blame, anyone, and this will always happend. This hapend in the scene with steve , Everyone jumped to him and started blaming him, trying to find someone to escape this madness. Steve got angry of course, and just started agreeing to it because of how mad,and how dispointed he was that they were all turning on him . Also , in this story, they would do ANYTHING to not be blamed, like with charlie, he even blamed a kid and the everyone started going against him and the mother was defending him. They just all started blaming eachother , started hurting eachother, started insulting eachother, started yelling at eachother. This shows that "Man kind is its own enemy" , it always was and this story just proved that, that we will quickly turn our backs on a eachother, how quickly we betray eachother, how quickly we blame eachother, even they been freinds for a long time.
