In honor of Odysseus, Alcinous has a celebration, where a feast is eaten and games are played. In the midst of the celebration, one of the suitors had the audacity to insult Odysseus because he doesn't think he will be able to win the game. After Odysseus does, in fact, win, Alcinous steers them away from the games. When a blind bard named Demodocus sings songs about the Trojan War, Odysseus breaks down in tears. Seeing this, Alcinous realizes who Odysseus actually is and invites him to speak about his journeys and hardships.
