- Start of Vision Quest and Sweat lodge
- Now I have to pray and purify my mind to prepare for my vision quest
- Meeting with the Elder
- I feel that I am ready to start my journey and go on my vision quest
- To embark on you journey you must first travel to somewhere far from the camp. You must go somewhere that is sacred and special.
- Sacred/Special Location
- This place is sacred. I think this is good spot to begin my journey on my vision quest
- Tim is a first nations person. Tim is in a sweat lodge ceremony. These ceremonies are done to pray and to purify the mind and soul. The rocks are heated over a fire and then have water poured over them to create steam and are overseen by an elder. Sweating is supposed to release toxins and negative energy from the body. Tim is preparing himself to go on a vision quest.
- Fasting and Prayer
- WOW, my spirit helper is the owl
- Tim now meets with an elder who instructs him to go out somewhere away from the village that is special and sacred where he is going to embark on his vision quest journey. He must go somewhere secluded away from other people where only the elder will go to see him. Vision quests are a very big milestone in a person's life as it is when they are recognized as adults in their village.
- The Vision
- You are now one of us, you are now our brother. You will be very wise and help your village by guiding them and giving advice.
- This location is a special place for indigenous people. It is believed that the spirit of the waterfall can heal any wound or injury. This place is sacred and far away from the village where Tim will not be distracted by other people when he goes on his vision quest and will be surrounded by nature.
- Returning Home
- I can't believe that my spirit helper is the owl.
- When someone goes on a vision quest they must start by fasting and praying in a place that is quiet and isolated from other people. Tim has no food and very little water and the time is spent praying trying to get answers from the spirits.
- On the third day of Tim's fasting and praying in isolation at sunrise he received his vision from the spirits. His mind and spirit were transported to another world, the world where the spirits live. In Tim's vision, an owl spoke to him and told him that his spirit helper is the owl and told him what his calling in life is.
- After the vision quest was over Tim started to make his way back to his village to get the elder to help him interpret the vision that he was shown. While he is returning home he feels a sense of relief that his vision quest is over and proud that his spirit helper is the owl. He is also happy that now he will be recognized as an adult in his village and no longer a child.
