Great idea on Parliament's part for creating the Navigation Acts!
*in his head* These British soldiers are utterly ridiculous, going around preaching all of Parliament's doings. The Navigation Acts are going to ruin the colonies' economy!
I agree entirely! This way the colonists can't profit from trade with anyone else!
2- Stamp Act (March 22, 1765)
You cannot use those playing cards, for they do not show the Stamp!
I spit at the mentioning of the Stamp Act- it is unfair and preposterous!
3- Quartering Act (March 24, 1765)
The King says we can stay in your house and you have to take care of us.
That's absurd! We don't have to do anything for you- this is OUR home, not Britain's!
The Navigation Acts, or the Acts of Trade and Navigation, were laws created by the British Parliament. They regulated trade between other countries and the colonies. These acts were important because they limited the colonies trade from the beginning; it would be incredibly frustrating for the colonists to be controlled in trade (their way of making money).
4- Boston Massacre (March 5, 1770)
Britain is only making our lives worse!
The Stamp Act was an act that required documents of all sorts to be printed on paper with an official stamp (created by the British Parliament). This was important because it was the first tax on the colonists without representation; this, understandably, angered the colonists.
5- Intolerable Acts (March 31, 1774)
Guess what? Since you guys decided to throw all of our tea into the harbor, we are going to give you even more laws and taxes to abide to!
That's it; we've had enough! we will no longer let Parliament control us like puppets from across the Atlantic! We are ready to fight for independence!
The Quartering Acts required colonists to host British soldiers, or else they would face punishment. This upset the colonists because they had to pay taxes for the accommodations they were forced to provide. They were already paying taxes for the previously imposed Stamp Act, and now they had to pay taxes for provisions and housing.
6- 2nd Continental Congress (May 10, 1775)
We must build an army to fight against Britain! This is our chance!
And once we win, we must write an elaborate document stating our independence!
The Boston Massacre was a brief skirmish between colonists and British soldiers. It began as a small riot of American colonists against a single British soldier; however, it quickly escalated into pure chaos, involving more soldiers. One thing leads to another, and the Britsh fired upon the Patriots at the sound of someone yelling "Fire!" (likely caused by the confusion and bells, which typically meant a fire). The fight angered the colonists (even though they truly started it) because they had several injured men and some dead. This event was important because it united the colonies through the martyr of liberty (the dead rioters).
Yeah! All they do is tax us and force us to host their soldiers!
Fire!
The Intolerable Acts were laws created to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party protest, which happened as a result of the constant addition of new taxes. These new laws were important because they made the colonists feel as if Britain was taking away their rights as Englishmen and human rights. The Intolerable Acts could also be considered the last straw needed for the American Revolution.
The 2nd Continental Congress was a gathering of the delegates of the colonies after the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The 2nd Continental Congress created a Continental Army and later declared independence from Britain. This group and what they did was so important because it was the final step for the colonies' independence.
Oh! I have waited too long for this!
