  • Mar 29 That crazy TV kept me up all night. HOw can I sleep with something yelling crazy things all night in my ears. And the nutty pictures. Wow. I dont know what it says when Im up so how am I going to know where Im sleeping. Dr Strauss says its ok. He says my brains are lerning when I sleep and that help me when Miss Kinnian starts my lessons in the hospitl (only I found out it isnt a hospitil, its a labatory). I think its all crazy. If you can get smart when your sleeping why do people go to school. That thing I dont think will work. I use to watch the late show and the late late show on TV all the time and it never made me smart. Maybe you have to sleep while you watch it.
  • The flowers symbolize remembrance, acceptance of fate, and grief. The flowers show how Charlie is grieving and remembering Algernon, and it also shows how Charlie has accepted his fate by admitting to himself that Algernon lost his intelligence, and that this will also happen to Charlie soon.

  • Algernon symbolizes the ideas that good things never last and that Fate is inevitable. This is shown by Algernon losing all his intelligence, which shows how his incredible intelligence did not last, and that this would be Charlie's fate soon, and was unavoidable.

  • Progress Reports
  • May 24 Burt, who is in charge of the experimental animals, tells me that Algernon is changing. He is less co-operative; he refuses to run the maze any more; general motivation has decreased. And he hasn't been eating. Everyone is upset about what this may mean.
  • The progress reports symbolize realization, a loss of ignorance, and change. This is shown by him changing because of the procedure, which is shown in the reports, and him realizing things about other people when he became smart, causing him to lose the ignorance that comes with being dumb.
