The house is located in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the narrator and his sister have lived in it for years in the same way as older generations.
LEFT ALL MY BELONGINGS
MY COLLECTION OF FRENCH BOOKS IS AT THE LIBRARY
Irene (my sister) and I (the narrator) live in the house. We spend time cleaning it because we want to keep it clean. I (the narrator) love to read, and Irene likes to knit.
Irene QUICK, we have to get out
I made the decision to put the water for mate. When I heard noises coming from the dining room or library, I had already made it all the way down the hallway to the oak door. The sound of a chair falling to the ground and hitting the carpet was distorted and vague.
O-O-Our poor beloved home!
It's gone!
Irene and I relocated to a smaller area of the house, leaving a lot of our belongings in the other area that had been taken over.
The passageway out to the side at that angle muffled the sounds I heard in the kitchen and later in the bathroom. Irene took note of how abruptly I had stopped and approached me without saying anything. The noises got louder and louder. I grabbed Irene's arm and made her flee without stopping to glance back since we didn't want to hear or see any more sounds or sights.
We felt terrible, before we left, we locked the front door and threw the key down the drain.
