  • There was arguments on how slaves should be counted in a state's population. In the end it was decided that five slaves would be counted the same as three free white men. Which eventually erupted in the Civil War where the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments abolished slavery and guarenteed civil rights and voting rights to US citizens, including former slaves.

  • The first ten amendments also known as the Bills of Rights were ratified in 1791. The bills of rights was created because Americans wanted strong guarantees that the new government wouldn't trample upon their newly won freedom
  • We'll keep the slave trade until 1808
  • Northern states and southern states worried about their trade since the House of Representatives was dominated by northern states with more people. The north and south decided to strike a bargain. So northern states agreed to continue the slave trade until 1808 and the southern states agreed to give up their demand that commercial regulations had to be passed by two-thirds vote of both Houses.
