- Grendel's mother vs Beowulf
- Grendel's mom wants revenge for her son being killed. "She'd taken Hrothgar's closest friend. She killed his friend.
- Beowulf's disadvantage
- "At night that lake Burns like a torch." Her home is so scary that animals would rather get eaten by dogs than to cross it.
- Beowulf's defeat
- Beowulf accepts Hrothgar's challenge. He leaps into the lake and "would not wait for anyone's answer."
- All is well
- Since he was in her home he faced a disadvantage. As they battled "a host of sea beasts" also arrived.
- Beowulf tossed his old sword aside realizing that it wasn't harming her.Beowulf seen a really big and heavy sword that was magical and "hammered by giants." Beowulf was able to use this to defeat Grendel's mother. this showed how powerful Beowulf really is.
- The lake suddenly became peaceful as Grendel's mother died. Beowulf took Grendel's head to symbolize that the evil is gone for good this time. The geats were still waiting even though they thought Beowulf was dead proving their loyalty.
