- The ghost of Old Hamlet
- Claudius and Gertrude
- A Warning
- Horatio and Marcellus joined Barnado and Francisco only to be frightened by a ghost. The ghost in which they think is Old Hamlet and because of his attire they think it is a warning. Horatio tries to speak to the ghost but it disappears. Horatio decides they should tell Prince Hamlet.
- Ophelia
- King Claudius convinces everyone that marrying Gertrude is normal. Claudius then says that he received a message from Fortinbras demanding Denmark to give back the land Old Hamlet won. Then Claudius and Gertrude question why Hamlet is so upset. Later on Hamlet says that he wishes he could die due to marriage. Horatio, Marcellus, and Baranado tell Hamlet that they saw the ghost of his dad.
- Ghost summons Hamlet
- As Laertes prepares to leave for France he warns his sister Ophelia to stay away from Hamlet. Ophelia promises to but tells him to take his own advice.
- Revenge
- Shortly after Lord Chamberlain comes and gives Laertes a long advice on how to act. He finally lets Laertes leave and then asks Ophelia what she and Laertes were talking about. Ophelia tells him about her love with Hamlet. Lord Chamberlain tells her he is using her and forbids her from seeing him. She obeys.
- On cold ramparts, Hamlet, Horatio, and Marcellus keep watch. Meanwhile a "party" is being held in the castle which Hamlet disapproves of. The ghost eventually shows and calls Hamlet to follow him. Horatio and Marcellus try to hold Hamlet back thinking it is a trap, Hamlet breaks free.
- The ghost claims to be King Hamlet and says that Claudius murdered him. The ghost commands that Hamlet gets revenge on Claudius for murder and for corrupting Gertrude. Hamlet promises to get revenge. Later Horatio and Marcellus rush in. Hamlet refuses to tell them what happened, but tells them that he might act insane. He makes them swear not to tell anyone.
