- Emperor Xiandi proved as an inadequate administrator, under his dominion officials obtained alternate objectives such as profession for their individual profits, because of Emperor Xiandi’s absence of control, he was obliged to resign from his status.

- In 960 CE military general Taizu launched a murder on former Tang dynasty ruler Emperor Ai, the death resulted in a new leader in which being military general Taizu now emperor Taizu. Considering Taizu’s rule was taken through force he would not continue the Tang Dynasty, instead, he would prefer to start a new Dynasty under the name; Song dynasty. He was declared emperor and founder of the Song dynasty thus formulating the foundation for all of China for numerous years to arrive.
- Officials established meritocracy; produced a learning method in combination with a civil service exam, a questionnaire taken by the applicants for patronage jobs. These quizzes affirmed the pedagogy of Confucius. A person’s completion of the questionnaires conclude whether or not he was accepted for the profession.
- Alchemists in the Song Empire accidentally discovered gunpowder. With this, they developed fireworks and shortly later they adopted gunpowder to propel arrows. Discoveries like these demonstrate why the Song Dynasty was recognized as a golden age.
