- Dad decided he could drive straight from Michigan to alabama with only short stops.mom gets angry because they have to stop in middle of the appalachian mountains at night.as the family gets back in the car and continues to dive, dad tells them to stick ther hands out the windowand he seeds that it feels like gods berg.

- Kenny is concerned about byron going to alabama all summer and asks dad if they can just drive for a while to scare him instead. - Kenny sees joey getting ready for Sunday school at church.as kenny is sleeping under a large tree, he hears a loud bomb.kenny goes to the church to investigate, sees the church bomb up,and two little dead girls.kenny sees the wool pooh,thinks joey is dead,and runs back home.kenny learns that joey had left the church and survived.
- After the family returns home, Kenny hides behind the couch because he thinks it has magical healing power. byron finds Kenny and brings him into the bathroom to talk about the bombing. Kenny feels ashamed that he left joey and didn’t save her. Kenny feels better and understands what he saw.
