- Sir, you are being put under arrest for vagrancy!
- I can't believe I let this happen again!

- It's 3 a.m. who are you?!
- Perry Smith you are under arrest for, "'larceny, jailbreak, car theft'"(Capote 138).
- Perry made it to Worcester, Massachusetts. He was arrested for vagrancy. He used the name "Bob Turner," so the F.B.I. wouldn't catch him: "He spent fourteen days in jail, was fined ten dollars, and departed from Worcester on another wet November afternoon"(Capote 137). Once he left jail he went straight to New York. It seems like Perry can actually act smart if he doesn't have someone there to persuade him.
- Perry was in New York for several months until in March the F.B.I. found him: "'Two F.B.I. bastards woke me up. Arrested me at the hotel. Bang!--I was extradited back to Kansas. To Phillipsburg. That same cute jail'"(Capote 138). Perry was given five to ten years. Although he seems to act like he may regret his wrongdoings, there seems to be a reoccurring pattern of behavior. He does things just because someone else says they are doing it.
