Sedgewick Bell Development

Sedgewick's cheating corrupts him, making him think that dishonesty is always the solution to any difficulty. Hundert agonizes over this lack of a moral compass and feels that it is impossible for either of them to change when both repeat the same behavior in the reconstruction of the contest forty years later. However, in his last encounter with Sedgewick, he stands up to his former pupil and exposes his lies, though he knows this makes no practical difference. Ever since Mr.Hundert talked to Sedgwick in his office Sedgwick has become determined to pass his class and do his best even if it meant cheating. Before their talk Sedgwick would have normally just skipped any assignments or do terrible on them purposely.
