  • You have a cold miss, but you can still pass...
  • Most immigrants who immigrated through Ellis Island were from Europe. The journey would take around 10 days by steam ship, and they would immediately start the immigration process.
  • Medical check at Angel Island
  • You'll have to stay for a while because of your colds.
  • Most immigrants who immigrated through Angel Island were from China and Japan. When they arrived, they were taken to a uncomfortable bed chamber, where they spent most of their time. It would take a while before they started the immigration process.
  • Legal Inspection at Ellis Island
  • Everything looks good! You are now U.S. citizens!
  • The medical exam at Ellis Island was about six seconds. Most immigrants passed the exam. If you had an illness you would be taken to the hospital on Ellis Island and would be treated there until you were fully recovered. Only 2% of immigrants were not allowed in the U.S. due to illness
  • You are prohibited to enter the U.S.
  • On the other hand, the medical exam at was much longer. They would do parasite testing, as well as other tests. Immigrants were malnutritional because of the quality of food they were serving at meals. If you had any kind of contagious sickness you would be deported back.
  • Again only 2% of immigrants from Ellis Island were not allowed to enter the country. The legal exam was relatively easy. You would need to have more than 20$ in your account, and you would answer questions the screeners asked. Though the few that were not allowed were sent back to their country.
  • Because of the Chinese Exclusion Act, most chinese immigrants were not allowed to enter the U.S. . they would be deported back to their country. Some chinese immigrants lied and said that they had family in the U.S. which would in some cases allow the immigrants to pass.
