My favorite contemporary popular style is alternative rock, especially grunge. From this genre, I chose Hole because their music is raw, emotional, and different from a lot of mainstream music.

Hole was formed in the late 1980s and became popular in the 1990s during the grunge movement. The lead singer, Courtney Love, is known for her strong personality and powerful voice. Their music was influenced by punk rock and grunge, which is why it sounds loud, emotional, and sometimes messy in a way that feels real. Their songs often talk about topics like identity, fame, relationships, and struggles, especially from a female perspective, which made them stand out.

One song I chose is Violet. I like how intense and emotional it is. The sound feels aggressive and powerful, especially in the chorus. It gives off a feeling of anger and frustration, but also confidence. To me, it really represents the raw energy of grunge music and how artists used music to express strong emotions.
Another song I chose is Miss World. This song feels more emotional and kind of sad compared to “Violet.” I like how it mixes softer moments with heavier ones. The lyrics feel personal and reflect struggles with identity and self-image. It shows a more vulnerable side of the band, which makes it really interesting.
