- Abigail Abigail is a servant of John and Elizabeth Proctor. It is shown in act 1 briefly that Abigail and John Proctor had an affair. She eventually uses black magic in the forest with Betty and Tituba.
- John Proctor John is a farmer in his mid thirties who is married to Elizabeth who he has three sons with. He is respected and feared by some.
- Elizabeth Proctor Elizabeth Proctor married to John Proctor who she has three sons with. She is one of many who were sentenced to death because she was accused of witchcraft, but it was postponed as she was pregnant.
- Reverend Parris Reverend Parris is the minister of Salem's church . He is a paranoid and self absorbed person. His daughter Betty has been struck by witchcraft.
- Betty Parris Betty Parris is daughter of Reverend Parris and cousin of Abigail. She has become ill after dancing in the woods with her cousin and practicing witchcraft.
- Tituba Tituba is Reverend Parris servant from Barbados. The Puritans believe she did black magic in the woods with Abigail and Betty. She was seen talking in an unknown language.
