- Emancipation Proclamation meaning to be set free/ released from slavery. In Jan,. 1,1863-Lincoln said that all enslaved people in the states in Rebellion "They shall be then, thence forward and forever and forever free". Not all slaves were free the only slaves that were free were the ones living in the Confederate states. All slaves will be free after the the union ward. This was not all law it was an War Executive order. Eventually in 1865, the 13th amendment abolished slavery.

- The Gettysburg Address is a speech given by President Lincoln. The Gettysburg Address was fought here in July 1863. The battlefield was dedicated as a cemetery in Nov. 1863 "Fourscore and seven years ago...." meaning 87 years from 1863 meaning you subtract 1863-87 to 1776 when the declaration of Independence. "Of the people, by the people, for the people , all men are created equal".

- John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Lincoln with a pistol in the back of his head. He assassinated Lincoln 5 days after the Civil War ended . Fort theater was where he got assassinated. Booth was assassinated about losing to the south in the civil war.
