- After a few months staying in Charleston, I decided to came back to my home in New York, I traveled by sailing ship and as a coincidence I have discovered by a list of passengers that my university friend Cornelious Wyatt was traveling in the same ship so I was expecting to have a nice trip with him.
- Climax

- When I boarded the ship I noticed that our cabins were close to each other, I decided to talk to him, he was with three ladies and I assumed that one of them was his young and beautiful wife that I had heard about, I speak to them but he was indiferent and the lady beside him just was polite to me, then they just walked in their room, that was rude I though.
- Falling action
- I noticed that my friend had another room and that two men left a box in there, I immediatly though that the box contained paints because he was an artist but one evening I heard Cornelious walked in that room and then I heard someone crying, my friend stayed in that room for hours and I though that the box was the reason of his bad behavior.
- Resolution
- One day it was a terrific weather outside, a storm and a strong wind moved the ship one side to another and we end up crushing into a sharp rocks and we started to sink, the captain screamed leave the ship, quick! and we have to evacuate in small boats, it was all fast and traumatic that we didn't noticed that my friend was missing.
- Suddenly, we saw Cornelious swimming and pulling his box in our direction and the captain order him to get in the boat but he refused to do it whithout his box and I asked him if the box was more important than his life and he screamed Yes, yes, yes! and he held onto the box until he sink with it. Finally, the wind blew us to the shore, we were safe.
- A month later, I met the captain and we talked about that day, about Cornelious and his oblong box, the captain said that it was a mistake to bring that box with us that day, I asked him why and he said that the box was actually the body of Mr Wyatt's dead wife, people said that it gave us bad luck.
