  • There was a stratification called : Feudalism and people were stratified by their rank in society and each rank had different roles
  • Slide: 3
  • Then a higher rank are the Knights , they were the vassels of the nobles or kings and were the lords of the peasants or serfs . They were skilled soldiers that fought in wars for the king.• Knights were in charge of the manors and would makesure that they were run well• In return for the manors the knights would pay taxes tothe nobles and agree to fight in any wars that thekingdom got involved in

  • The lowest rank were the : Peasants , they were the medieval farmers. They engaged in farming and labored on the knights' manors. The peasants would provide the knights food and taxes in exchange for working the land. They were the vassels of the knights

  • Serfs were almost the same as Peasants but the difference is that they were tied to he land they lived on and couldnt move of there but had more freedom than slaves , the had to obbey the knighst nobles or kings and also have to ask for permission for getting married.- They were the vassels of the Knights

  • A higher rank were the nobles , they were the vassels of the King but the lords of knights , peasants or surfs.The king would give land to the nobles so they could manage or care for the land. The nobles were persons close to the king (usually relatives and very good friends). In exchange, the Nobles were required to pay the monarch taxes (money and food) and support him in battle. The manors, which are bigger plots of land used for farming and containing small settlements, are how the nobles further divided the land.
