King Philip II of Spain and Queen Elizabeth I of England did not like each other for many reasons, one being their differing religions, Philip was Catholic and Elizabeth was Protestant
I don't like you
I don't like you either
Philip also thought the ruler of England should be Catholic since he and the previous queen of England, Mary Tudor, were both catholic. But after many plots to try and get Elizabeth off the throne by Queen Mary of Scotland, Elizabeth had her imprisoned and later sentenced to death.
This made Philip angry because he really truly believed England should have a Catholic ruler. Fueled by anger and his dislike for Elizabeth he looked for ideas to invade England
Philip decided that since his fleet of ships was the best in all of Europe, that he'd invade England by sea
the Armada reached England and went into the English channel where England's smaller and outnumbered ships were waiting
But the weather had gotten bad and the Spanish did not know how to maneuver the English channel and they ended up crashing and getting set on fire by other English ships. While some did return to Spain, King Philip was not happy with them
